Martin D. Adamiker's LISA - Description

This tool generates star charts from various catalogs.

The output format is encapsulated PostScript (EPS).

The source code is being written in plain C++; no special libraries are needed; we intend to make the source code compilable on many platforms.

In the first place, this software was developed for an amateur astronomer's private use. Because of the EPS output format, it is not a full replacement for a desktop observatory. It takes two steps: create the chart, and plot it. However, there are several advantages:

The output format, PostScript, yields high precision images in vector graphics quality.
PostScript is platform independent and may be converted to any graphics format in batch mode.
Catalogs up to the USNO-A V2.0 Catalog (samples) including more than 500 million stars can be integrated.
The Asteroid Orbital Elements Database (samples) can be plotted using an exposure time - as on a real exposure, the asteroids are lines, not dots.
The University of Lyon's HyperLeda catalog (samples) can also be included. Guidelines of how to do this will follow soon. At present the database contains about 3 million objects, out of them 1 million are certainly galaxies (with a high level of confidence).
